Spring break started off really rough with a virus going through our family. It ended up hitting all of us! Thankfully, it was over pretty quick, but it had to make it's way through all of us. The 4 big kids got it the worst and threw up a lot, but it didn't last more than a day. However, it delayed our spring break plans. We wanted to get away for a few days and thought about going to Arizona where the weather was nice, but we didn't want COVID to ruin our trip. We decided, especially with the virus to just stay here in Texas. We drove to San Antonio to see cousins and the Alamo since I was the only one in our family that has seen it before.
We had a great time. We spent a day as a family going downtown to the Alamo, the Riverwalk, a park, Chuck E. Cheese, and Red Robin for dinner. It was a lot of fun. The Alamo was kind of a shock for the kids. I think they were expecting to see something pretty grand, but it wasn't much to look at, plus we couldn't go inside. There were limited spots because of COVID. Thankfully we didn't have to wear masks anywhere we went. The mask mandate was lifted just a week prior to us coming.
We walked around for a bit and saw the Riverwalk which was cool. Mackenzie liked seeing all the horse drawn carriages. The kids waved to everyone on the tour boats too. After exploring for a little while downtown, we drove to Chuck E, Cheese which of course was a huge hit! They all loved it. We killed some time at a park before going to Red Robin for dinner.
I think going to a restaurant was the best part of the day for the kids! We had a great server which made the experience even better. We ordered the kids unlimited root beer floats which thrilled them. The waiter brought out the unlimited fries with several dipping sauces early so we could munch on something while we waited for our meals. And the root beer floats just kept coming!! He even sent some in to-go cups with us when we were leaving! The kids were ecstatic!! It was a lot of fun for all of us.
We spent the next day watching their cousins play flag football. Between games our boys played with all the kids so they weren't completely left out. It was really fun watching them play. Kenney kept most of the younger kids entertained which was no surprise. That evening Brock got the firepit going and we made s'mores. It was a pretty quick trip, but it was great, not too long, not too short. We made it to the Alamo just in time too, Brock and Shayla are moving to Vernon now.
The Riverwalk
We found a carriage horse taking a break. Mackenzie got brave and decided to pet the horse. She loved it!
We had some real 'professionals' take our picture, aka Damon.
Family selfie to get in and out of Chuck E. Cheese
These girls...
Damon was so good at helping Mackenzie with these racing games
We found a park with a walking path to explore before we headed to dinner.
Dinner in a 'real' restaurant!
The best part of the day for the kids... unlimited root beer floats!
The first one they got was a smaller cup, the refill the waiter brought was huge!! He even brought ones this size to-go when we were leaving!
No complaints from anyone!
She happily took anyone's unfinished cups!
Love these kids!
Damon and Luke spent a lot of time together this trip.
Bentley went to the store with Brek and Shayla, of course.
Kenney was to popular guy at the flag football games.
Always trying on shoes, but these covered her entire leg!
Firepit fun!
Their natural state
S'mores!!!
Shayla caught Luke and Mackenzie playing a fun game with cereal.
The Alamo was not quite as impressive as the kids were expecting, but it was still pretty cool for all of us to see!
It didn't take Mackenzie long to figure out how to make the games work!
These two love to race and drive cars! They are so alike sometimes it's scary!
Some of us were bigger fans of s'more than others, haha
Luke was so sweet with Mackenzie and loved making her laugh.
