Happenings Thus Far in August

We have been inside most of our days lately because of the weather, so we have been trying to entertain ourselves in the house.

This is Kyler's little seat in the kitchen. He's very proud of himself for finding it!

He's just too cute!

Kyler's newest face! I'm not quite sure where it came from, but he will just do it randomly. He also does it when you ask him, "Where are your eyes?"

New Skills

Kyler's newest toy. He is getting better everyday. Not too bad for a 17 month old! He likes to hit the harder balls too, and I have to take cover!

He has been practicing basketball a little longer than baseball so he's got the hang of basketball a little better. He used to clap for himself after every shot, so we've had to move the goal up at least twice now. He likes shooting the football and volleyballs in the hoop too!

39 Weeks

Here is the picture that many of you have been asking about. Yes I am still pregnant. I thought this baby would be out by now!! I have decided that it is very mean to tell a pregnant woman that she is going to be induced all the way through her pregnancy, and then decided 3 weeks before the due date that you've changed your mind!! I thought for sure this baby would be here at least a week ago. I know I don't look huge and uncomfortable to most of you, but trust me I AM!! I think I just picked a shirt that makes me look smaller. I know I am getting a lot bigger because everyone I run into asks me how much longer!

50 Consecutive Days

Basically this summer has been HOTT. We have had 50 days in a row of 100+ degree weather and 76 days so far this year with about 15 inches less rain than normal. Therefore, we are indoors the majority of the time. Poor Kyler loves being outside, but I can't hack it for very long. I sweat just going out the front door and getting to the car! Plus we are under water restrictions and cannot play in his pool anymore. Today we are supposed to break the streak and only get up to 98!! To some that may seem hot, to us that is a miracle!! This is a poem that Kenney found describing our current situation:
Ode to Texas

The devil wanted a place on earth

Sort of a summer home
A place to spend his vacation
Whenever he wanted to roam.

So he picked out Texas

A place both wretched and rough
Where the climate was to his liking
And the cowboys hardened and tough.

He dried up the streams in the canyons

And ordered no rain to fall

He dried up the lakes in the valleys

Then baked and scorched it all.

Then over his barren country
He transplanted shrubs from hell.

The cactus, thistle and prickly pear

The climate suited them well.

Now the home was much to his liking

But animal life, he had none.
So he created crawling creatures
That all mankind would shun.

First he made the rattlesnake
With it's forked poisonous tongue.
Taught it to strike and rattle
And how to swallow it's young.

Then he made scorpions and lizards

And the ugly old horned toad.

He placed spiders of every description
Under rocks by the side of the road.

Then he ordered the sun to shine hotter,

Hotter and hotter still.
Until even the cactus wilted
And the old horned lizard took ill.

Then he gazed on his earthly kingdom

As any creator would

He chuckled a little up his sleeve
And admitted that it was good.
'Twas summer now and Satan lay
By a prickly pear to rest.

The sweat rolled off his swarthy brow

So he took off his coat and vest.
"By Golly," he finally panted, "I did my job too well,
I'm going back to where I came from, 'Cuz Texas is hotter than Hell."

Playroom

We have known for a while that we need a playroom, but just haven't given it priority. Well, Kenney wanted to move all the storage stuff we had in the room and put the toys in there. I told him I would rather paint and get the room done before we moved in toys, so we decided take on a new project before the baby gets here!

Before

This room was really dark and seemed like a cave. The people living here before us used it as a bedroom, but it connects right off the living room so we thought it would be a perfect playroom.

After

We were able to paint, clean carpets, etc. in about 3 days! Kyler tried to 'help' as much as possible, but we did most of the work while he was sleeping. Nap time was work time! By the time I had rolled to room twice, painted all the trim (especially the trim around the floor), and cleaned the carpets, I thought I could get this baby out! No such luck, I worked hard for nothing!!

The yellow really brightens the room up and makes it much more lively! Kyler loves this room as long as Kenney or I are in the room with him. He has tons of space to run and throw balls.

As you can tell in this video, Kyler loves to run! His daddy is his favorite friend. Thank goodness one of us has energy to keep up with Kyler!

New Tricks

Kyler has been trying out a lot of new things lately. He is becoming much less of a chicken and is not nearly as cautious as he used to be. He also watches things that Kenney and I do way too carefully. He tries to do everything that we do. This first video is of Kyler trying to put his shoes on by himself. It's not a very exciting video, but it shows how much he thinks about doing things. I think it's funny to watch him grab is foot like I do!

2 of Kyler's cousins recently moved and didn't have room for their swimming pool so they are letting us borrow it until they can come back for it. He had fun playing with them in the pool, but he would not slide down the slide without help. He all of a sudden got the courage to go down the slide by himself, and he had so much fun! He would then reward himself by spraying his head with the hose!! This kid absolutely loves water.

**Picture and video disclaimer- there are pictures and video of a very cute but very naked little boy!! Of course he had to poop in his diaper while he was swimming, and yes, I was too lazy to go get another diaper!

He had to concentrate to get up the stairs, therefore the tongue came out!

Who needs pool toys when you have a hose and a milk jug? Trust me they worked for at least 30 minutes to entertain Kyler!!

Meet Howard and Dewey. These are Kyler's new best friends. They have been in his crib for months now, but he recently discovered them. He would not let go of them the other morning. I have also caught him holding them while he sleeps. I guess he can be sweet when he wants to.

This last little video is what Kyler does after he gets out of the bathtub every night. He has to run around with the towel on his head, using it as his cape. Yes, his daddy taught him that!!

5 Day Photo Shoot from Papa Dude

Over the 4th of July weekend my family came down from Missouri to visit us. Kyler loves company!! He had a great time with everyone here. He never stopped going, going, going. The pool was probably the highlight of his week, but he had fun the whole time, even though we didn't really do anything. Just having other people to play with besides Mom made for a great time. Jason took some really cute pictures while they were here. These are some of the best!

Helping dig out the potatoes in the garden. The poor plant died of heat stroke before producing any noteworthy potatoes, but Kyler loved the dirt.

This is one of my favorites. Such a handsome boy ready for church!!

I don't know why he puckers his face like this, but he's just too cute!

Kyler eating pancakes in Granddaddy's chair. He looks so tiny at the big table with a big fork.

He has to double check what's going in his mouth. I guess I have tried to trick him too many times.

Gotta love the pinkie in the air!

Insane Water Lover

Kyler is officially a water lover. He is not scared of anything when it comes to the water. My family came down from St. Louis over the July 4th weekend to visit us, and we drove to Brownwood to visit my grandparents and aunt. Nanny really wanted to take Kyler to the new pool in Brownwood because she knows how much he loves water. I think he was in Heaven!! The kid was not scared of anything. Eventually, he just started throwing himself in the water. I didn't get the best videos or pictures because I was having extreme technical difficulties (batteries dying, memory cards full, etc.), but I think you can grasp just how much fun the water is to Kyler.

He put his face right into these little fountains and laugh!!

The beach entry was perfect for him. He ran around the entire time we were there. Nothing phased him.

The first couple times he fell in the water it was on accident because he was running too fast. Well apparently he thought it was fun because eventually he began throwing himself in the water on purpose. He learned how to close his mouth and came up with a big smile every time. Someone had to stay very close to him at all times!!

The slide was not biggie either. He went down by himself every time and kept wanting to go back.

We had a blast at the pool and lots of fun with family. I'll post some really cute pictures that Jason took next week some time.
