Takin' a Walk

Kenney is required to get involved in community health events for school every semester.  Last weekend the boys and I were able to be part of the experience too.  We did a walk to end Alzheimer's along with at least 1000 others.  There  were plenty of things for the boys to watch, and they enjoyed to walk.  We only lasted for 2 miles, but we did have to wait for about an hour for the walk to start and they were getting tired.  We were also lucky because the weather was so nice.  It was in the 60s and fabulous!  Overall, we had a good time, and it was a fun way to spend our Saturday as a family.

I love how our family pictures are getting worse and worse!

The Texas Tech Women's Basketball team lead the walk (for only about 1/4 of a mile before they quit) but the boys had fun watching them and the miniature ponies.

This player loved our boys and just wanted to hold Damon.  He was a pretty good sport about it and let her hold him without screaming.

Kyler wanted to pet these ponies, but he looks extremely unsure of it here.
I'm not sure which was more uncomfortable, the basketball player or the pony.

Kyler discovered how to roll down a hill while we were waiting for the walk to start.  He really loved going down over and over.  Somehow pretty much every time he went down he hit Damon.  I'm not so sure it was an accident after the first time!

Kyler got out of the stroller a few times and ran along with everyone else.  He had fun keeping up!

The people go all the way back around the corner. There were quite a few of us.

After we got back they had lunch for everyone.  The boys each got their own bag of Cheetos and LOVED it!

Bubble Mania

The Science Spectrum recently had a bubble mania night so we headed there for a night of fun.  The boys love the Science Spectrum anyway, but add bubbles and they were in heaven!!  There were all kinds of bubble activities.  One was bubble art where Kyler had to blow air through a straw into a container with dyed liquid and then press paper on top of the bubbles to make an 'impression' on the paper.  Well instead of blowing through the straw Kyler sucked up the nasty soapy liquid into his mouth!  It was funny and gross at the same time, but it didn't seem to bother him.

Kyler playing with the big bubbles Daddy made for him

Oh yeah he attacked that bubble.  I love how aggressive he gets just popping bubbles!!

"I can almost reach it."

Blowing through the bubble sheet.  I love that both Kenney and Kyler are blowing.  I think Kenney had a little more power behind his blow!

"Oh no, where did the bubble go?"  He has a very nervous look on his face.

It took us to the very end to finally convince Kyler to stand in the bubble.  He was very uncomfortable about the whole thing.  I don't think he was afraid of the bubble, it was all the people looking at him while he was doing it that made him unsure.
Damon standing in a bubble.  He wasn't quite so sure what was going on around him, but he didn't seem to mind.

Nothing better than running and jumping!  He has some great sound effects to go along with the popping.  He eventually started running from across the room to jump on the bubbles.  Of course he had to run fast!
Damon had a much harder time popping the bubbles.  He can't quite jump yet and doesn't weight enough to pop them well, but he still had fun!

Random Life at the end of Summer

I forget how often the boys do silly things or how much silly things are a part of our everyday life.  I have tried to capture a few of those things lately and the rest of this post is just random happenings of our lives!

Damon's 'comfortable' sleeping position.  This kid moves so much in his sleep!  He is everywhere.  If he was not contained he would be all over the room, literally!

These boys LOVE chocolate milk.  They will both actually stay still and drink it.  Not much can slow them down but chocolate milk can!

The boys love playing in the water, especially indoors.  Sometimes when I am trying to get ready, the only way to keep them occupied is to let them play in the sink.  I don't recommend starting this at your house.  It's wet, messy, sometimes results in tears, and then becomes expected every time you enter the bathroom.

Here's a little clip of them playing.  Who knew the sink could be so fun?!?

Damon clapping for Kaden (Kenney's brother) at a recent football game.  He didn't even last through 5mins of the game before we had to take him down to the grass.  I don't know why we even thought we were going to watch the game!

Kyler watching the action.  He did much better than Damon, but after the cheerleaders threw him a ball, all he wanted to do was play football himself.  Celesta (Kenney's cousin) who was at the game with her two girls told me how much easier it was to bring boys to a football game.  She brought a big bag full of books, crayons, purses, etc. to entertain her girls.  She pointed out all Kyler needed was one ball.  It's true he played with that ball for 3 quarters and halftime!

Damon has only had mac-n-cheese a handful of times.  This is one of them.  Do you think he likes it?  I had to keep getting him more and more.  I guess I forget that most kids eat food like this.  Kyler, the weirdo, still won't touch it!

Yumm, that was so good!

Kyler got in bed with us one morning, which is not unusual, and he always makes sure that he is comfortable.  Yes, he propped his feet up ON me and completely took over MY pillow!  I keep telling Kenney this is why we need a bigger bed.  Our full size bed just doesn't cut it!

Unfortunately, this is a pretty common sight if you are around Kyler for very long.  He picks his nose all the time.  The other night Kenney put Kyler to bed and said that he wanted me.  I thought he just wanted to say goodnight.  I was totally wrong.  He kept saying, "Mommy!  Mommy!  Here, here."  I didn't know what he was talking about until he put a booger in my hand.  He didn't want to say goodnight; he wanted to give me his booger!!  Gross.  Who does that?  Don't get me wrong, I am very glad he doesn't eat them or wipe them on the wall, but seriously, he has to hand it to me?  It was disgusting.  Oh the life with little boys!

Damon Turns 1

I didn't quite figure out that we would be in Childress for Damon's birthday until we had already left.  So we did some quick planning and came up with a little party.  My party planning skills need some major work, but at least we celebrated, right?  Sunday was such a crazy day that nothing went as planned, and we were flying by the seats of our pants.  I am such a bad mom that I didn't even make a cake for him this year.  Luckily Aunt Savanna threw one together for us so we at least had a cake.  We didn't quite make it to the frosting, but we did have ice cream.  Who cares about cake when you have ice cream?  So during the commercials of the Olympic closing ceremonies we had a 'party.'

He really wasn't sure about the whole candle thing.

I apologize for the dirty shirt too.  We were running out of clean clothes, and he had a little too much fun with the Kool-aid at Nanny's house earlier.

We definitely need to practice the whole blowing out candles thing before next year.  This was even round 2.
I promise he had seen a present before, but the whole experience seem absolutely foreign to him!

He sorta got the idea of the wrapping paper, but lucky for us there were plenty of cousins to help!

The only thing I did right the whole night was get him this big orange ball.  I think he liked it!

This is what Kyler was doing while Damon was opening presents.  Little sneak.

Another new experience... ICE CREAM

He pushed the cake aside to make more room for ice cream.  I don't think he took more than one bite of cake.  He knows better than waste any room on cake.  Ice cream is the way to go!

And it was late, so we had a few melt downs too!

I think he had 3 helpings it was so good!

We all scream for ice cream!!

I have to admit that this year has gone by fast and slow at the same time.  I never thought we would make it to 4 months let alone 1 year with our family intact!  Damon threw us all for a loop, but we love him dearly.  He is a crazy little boy that adores his big brother, loves to see his daddy walk in the door, and occasionally lays his head on his mom's shoulder.  He has the biggest and most contagious smile, and he loves to scream!  He can whistle almost better than me and is FINALLY sleeping through the night (most of the time).  Our lives have been forever changed because of this little boy, and honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way!

Fun in Childress

We headed from Uvalde to Childress to visit some more family on our break from school.  Kyler was so excited to get to Nana and Papa's house this time!  He couldn't wait to see Kacy and Keyan, and everyone else.  The boys had a great time with everyone in Childress.  They loved going to Nanny and Papa's house with the horses, and orange slices (candy), playing with their cousins, jumping on the trampoline, getting ice and water from the refrigerator door, and just having fun!  We were able to go to the river and the lake while we were there.  These boys love playing outside!

Kyler had special time with Papa every morning.  The first morning we were there Kyler got out of bed and found Papa at 6:30.  He watered the garden and the grass, fed the dogs, took Kaden to football practice, and just followed Papa everywhere.  He cried when Papa told him he had to go to work, so Papa decided he didn't have to go to work just yet and let Kyler continue to follow him.  Eventually, Papa put Kyler in bed with Nana and left for work.  Kyler did all of that without Kenney and I knowing.  We didn't even hear him leave our room.  He did this everyday except one (he was finally so exhausted he slept in).  Papa said that Kyler never said one word to him but would just follow along and help.  Kyler loved being with Papa!

We had never seen so little water at the river, but it was still fun for the boys to play in the sand/mud.  I thought it was yucky, especially when Damon got a bottle the kids were using to catch minnows and took a swig of the water.  I almost puked, and of course Damon didn't seem to notice anything different about the water.  Gross boys!!

Catching minnows with Nana and Daddy

Naked boys cleaning off the sand by running through the sprinkler!  I love cute little naked butts!!

These boys LOVE their Aunt Kacy

On the way to the lake, Kyler threw one of the biggest fits to date.  He screamed and cried and kicked for literally an hour before he fell asleep.  Of course he finally fell asleep right as we pulled up to the lake, but this is the pathetic face he had when he gave up.  The frown, the pouty lips, the tears.  All because Mom wouldn't let him play with her sunglasses!

Once he took a short nap, he went down to the water and played football with Aunt Savanna.  He loved being able to get in the water at his own comfort level.  It was good to see him enjoying the water again rather than being scared.  Kyler took a few boat rides and was able to get on the tube with me.  He was the most boring, non-expressive kid ever.  He never smiled or cried or anything.  I could never figure out if he liked it or not.  He wouldn't say anything.  Weirdo!

This kid is always happy when he has food in his mouth!

Kyler decided to go rock climbing and it scared me to death!  He was just following his cousins, but I didn't trust him.  I was completely amazed when he made it to the top without any problems.  I was mostly terrified that there would be a snake everywhere I looked, but thankfully, for all of us, there were no snakes!  Kyler had a blast climbing.

Damon trying out the rock climbing himself.  He wasn't quite so successful, but he had fun trying to catch the big kids.

Kyler dumping sand in Uncle Kaden's hair.  I love Avery in this picture too.

Vampire Kyler.  I have a much better looking vampire than Twlight!

Damon was either screaming mad or happy all day long.  There was no middle ground.
