Egypt Day 3: Aswan Market, The Nile and Kom Ombo

We had most of the day in Aswan while our boat was docked.  We choose not to get up at 2am to go to Abu Simbel and ride in a van for 7 hours.  We took naps, explored in Aswan a little bit, but it was their Sabbath so not much was open, and enjoyed the best meal the cruise had to offer: Egyptian food.  The defiantly did their food the best!

We came back to our room every evening with a different shaped towel sculpture.
Amazing selection of fresh fruits and vegetables.
This was like a Walmart supercenter for the locals.  This was not a tourist place.  You could find anything you needed in this place.
More fresh spices and foods.
And plenty of trash, but not as much as there was in Cario.

It was crazy to try and cross the streets here.  There are no such things as crosswalks.  I wonder how many people get hit every day?

We were looking for the markets and this is not what we expected.  We followed the instructions from Debbie because she had gone earlier, but we did not find the place she went.  It was definitely an adventure!

Cruising along the Nile

Our boat had a nice little pool on the top deck.  It was a little chilly, but it felt nice in the heat of the day.
The vegetation along the banks of the river were such a contrast to the desert beyond it.
There were all kinds of animals lining the shores too.

It was nice to see the changing views atop our boat as we cruised along the river.

Leaving Aswan.

More views from the top.

The servers gave us a few games and puzzles to do in the evenings. Kenney was almost able to do this one.

Kom Ombo

Temples of Horus (falcon god) and Sobek (crocodile god) and the Nilometer, used to measure the rising and falling levels of the Nile. On the back wall of the temple the very first known representations of precise surgical tools are carved.  Some of the tools were suction caps, scalpels, bone saws, dental tools, medicine bottles, forceps, birthing chairs and forceps. There was a Crocodile Mummy museum there too.

More than 300 crocodile mummies were found in the Kom Ombo temple.
Another mummified crocodiles wraps up close.
Sun setting on the Nile
You can see the Kom Ombo temple in the back
That evening everyone dressed up for the party.  We didn't buy anything special, but it was fun to see others get into it!
